Beaches and bathing areas

Clare County Council would like to draw your attention to the following ‘Out of Season Bathing Know the Risks’ info graphic. Open water swimming, at sea or in lakes and rivers, has both physical and mental health benefits for us all.

During the colder seasons, there is an increased risk of water-borne illness, cold-water shock, hyperventilation and tachycardia, hypothermia, muscle cramping and drowning. So please be aware of the risk and don’t swim beyond your limits.

Here are some important tips to stay safe:

  • Never swim alone
  • Always wear a bathing suit and a bright swimming cap
  • Know your limits and don’t swim beyond them
